Do animals have any rights in Canada?
Revealed: No Country for Animals examines Canada’s deplorable record on animal welfare and looks at the people who are fighting to bring about much-needed change.
This documentary introduces viewers to some of the people who are fighting to bring about change in this country. There’s Nicole Joncas challenging the Quebec courts to close their horrific puppy mills, or Twyla Francois, armed with an undercover camera, campaigning vigorously to bring attention to the mistreatment of farm animals. We meet Canada’s first lawyer to specialize in animal law, and a new, young generation dedicated to the fight to improve the lives of animals through legal and educational means.
This documentary will enlighten and enrage you and will leave you wondering how humane our society really is.
You know factory farms for livestock really is a sad thing and I wish more people knew what went on. I became a vegetarian because of how the animals are treated. I would not have as much problem if the live stock was treated like what I think most people think, wandering around on quiet farms, grazing the day away until it was time to slaughter them. We just had it on our CA ballot where there would be regulations about how animals are housed, and one of the things that was really hotly faught was that chickens would have the room to stand up, turn around and spread their wings. Can you imagine anyone fighting saying that we should not give any creature the room to stand up and turn around when they will live their whole life that way. I was proud of CA for passing that in a landslide, but I was worried before the election. Now we do have a lot of puppy mills and they are horrible and when they are caught houseing the dogs in abusive conditions nothing much happens, maybe they are forced to get rid of a few dogs and I am sure they are back to it the next week. I just hope that one day we will all treat animals, all animals with more respect because they are living beings. OK, I will get off my soap box now!!!
ReplyDeleteI am sorry, but I don't agree with the vast majority of the legislation that is being passed. Animal care is an emotional issue, and everyone has an "opinion". With every thing that people do with their animals- someone else will think it is "inhumane". I (personally) think that in a Capitalist society, we can "vote" with our choices. I still want the choice to raise shelties. I do think the Title says it all- No Country for Animals!!! I fear that is the final outcome - it sure will be if HSUS gets their way.
ReplyDeleteIf you see what they've done in other countries I have to say that I definitely agree with the process. In Denmark, they didn't say that they have done away with meat slaughter, they said that they have given the pigs a better quality of life EVEN THOUGH they are being used for pork production. I don't think there's a an OPINION in that matter. An animal should be treated as a living thing, not as a piece of property and THAT's the point. You can most definitely draw a line as to where it becomes an opinion. I'm certain that you wouldn't leave your dogs in a crate that they couldn't stand up in, that wasn't cleaned on regular basis, that had dirty stagnant water, and only feed it once every 3 weeks. We can ALL agree that that is WRONG, period!! There's no argument. So, I completely agree with making the living conditions of livestock better than what they are at present. It isn't the legislation you need to worry about, it's people that are fanatics...and you have that in everything. But not all animal activists are as radical as you would think. Also, IF there is a better way to do something move forward and do it. Some people who resist, in my opinion, are just afraid of making a change because they're unfamiliar with it. They think it will restructure everything in their comfort zone...which is true, but just because it's a change does NOT mean it's bad...I vote for a change. Animals shouldn't have less rights than my vehicle. My dogs breathe, think, and have feeelings...they're beings, they should have rights.
